On the River Denial
I did some hanging out with the crafty crew of the Richmond Craft Mafia tonight. We’re firming up details for the Handmade Holiday Show, at the Visual Art Center in December. I always get inspired from hanging out with my friends. and they always have something new and interesting going on.

And I am soo not ready. Lots of ideas for new items, lots of sewing to do for boosting in-stock product for the show. And I am in full on denial mode, What Holiday show? I have plenty of time, I’ll work on that tomorrow… And I am easily distracted with wanting to start a totally new project, learning how to silk screen. Wave to me from the shore of reality as I float by on my river of denial.
The Day After
I am so proud today. I think of my Grandfather who was born in 1900, an educated black man in Virginia who couldn’t vote unimpeded until the Voting Rights Act of 1965. I wish he could have lived to see this day in history. I also think of all my other ancestors that struggled to do the best for their family in America, in a time when it wasn’t the land of the free for ALL of its people. Its a remarkable day.
Congratulations President Elect Obama!!

RCM’s Handmade Holiday
This year the Richmond Craft Mafia and the Visual Arts Center of Richmond are teaming up to present the Handmade Holiday Craft Show, an exciting new holiday shopping event for Richmond.
The Richmond Craft Mafia has put on their Handmade Holiday Trunk Show since 2005, but now our collaboration with the Visual Art Center will expand the show to include other crafters and designers from the Richmond area.
The show will be held at the newly renovated and expanded Visual Arts Center of Richmond (formerly the Hand Workshop) on Main Street. The juried show will take place on Saturday – December 13th from 10 – 5, with a Preview Party the night before, December 12th from 7 – 10 pm.
Applications for Handmade Holiday Craft Show will be available online from August 24th – September 22nd. Only crafters and designers living in the Richmond, Virginia area will be eligible (applicants must be within a 30-mile radius of the City of Richmond).
Summertime…
The past 4th of July was super fun …
Hot Air Ballons and Fire Works!

(yep, I took this cool pic!)
good BBQ and seeing some family I haven’t seen in years!
Downside to summer? The heat, Duh. 10 mosquito bites (+ 4 more yesterday!) and crazy gas prices.
It’s back to work time:
My new obsession is button rings. I have a huge stash of buttons acquired through the years and found something I can finally do with them. Some are vintage-y (I get from flea markets and antiques stores) and some are just doggone cute and make great rings.
You can find them in my shop on Etsy while I update my main website.
