Fall’n For Flowers

Fall’n For Flowers

I love flowers but they don’t really love me back.  Ya see, I have terrible allergies.  So I admire from afar.  I’ve been making the super cute flower pillows of late, new for fall and to appease my flower fix. A little daisy, a little sunflowery, very flowery.

Nose to the grind stone.  I have some sewing to do.  I’m gearing up for the Handmade Throwdown at Crossroads Art Center!

The Richmond Craft Mafia is participating in the “The Art of Business Throwdown.” It is a competition between two teams (RCM and the Real Small Art League)  competing to promote 2 visual artists of different styles. ( us = craft, them = art)  The teams will be judged on: media coverage, overall sales, (from the gallery show) and the impact of the event on the artist’s platform.  Think Donald Trump’s television show “The Apprentice.” and you have an idea of whats going on… HANDMADE THROWDOWN!  Its going to be paint, clay, soap, beads, and fabric carnage everywhere!  I kid, I kid!  It will cool and you need to be there!!  (did I use enough exclamation points!)

I am finally seeing the end of the tunnel with my website update. Yes!
My friend Amy has took the leap and now has her own website for her business Modern Atelier, after selling her scents inspired by places, sights and scents here in Richmond on Etsy. A favorite of mine is Botanical Gardens, and Kai Halulu and maybe Kuba Kuba. Ok, so that’s more that one. :-) If you are like me, check out her deal of pick any four scents for $50 and you can change up to fit your mood.

My crafty homie Maryellen Kim of Twist Style is one of the winners of the Country Living’s Pitch Your Product contest. Check her out on the County Living website (she’s #9 in the slideshow) and in their November issue of the magazine.

I’ve known her going on 3 years now and she continually inspires me.  I know first hand through her that its possible to make a living with what you like to do and flourish.  Her craft game is proper!!   :-)
